C# /.NET Software Developer with Distributed Systems Experience

General Summary:
Shavlik Technologies is seeking an experienced, self-starting Application C# / .NET Programmer with experience in Distributed Systems and Databases with a strong work ethic who is capable of working both independent of direct supervision and as part of a team to design, maintain, and enhance existing, current, and future applications all built using the latest Microsoft development technologies. This position will have the opportunity to take current product and work proactively with stakeholders within and outside of Shavlik to develop simple solutions to serve distributed environments, such as MSP, remote offices, etc. Five years of experience is preferred.

Basic Purpose
Performs product design, bug verification, release testing, and beta support which may require research and analysis. Operates under minimal supervision. Reports to the Software Development Manager. Typically requires 3+ years of technical experience in software design and product support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
60% Performs complex product design and implementation activities

  • Performs design, implementation, documentation and maintenance of complex, multiple product modules / sub-systems.
  • Participates in product design meetings.

30% Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.

  • Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions to the problems.
  • Conducts unit testing and integration testing for functionality and limits.

10% Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. Researches new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology.

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree software engineering or computer science; advanced degree desirable.
5+ years of experience in software development.

Required skills, knowledge
Expert knowledge and experience developing full-lifecycle applications built on the Microsoft .NET framework.
Design experience in OOD/OOP
Worked in a Distributed Systems environment
Web Services/WCF
Programming language: C#
SQL database skills (ADO, SQL, stored procedures, ASP.Net)
Working experience with XML.

C++/.NET Software Developer with Experience in Virtual Environments

General Summary:
Shavlik Technologies is seeking an experienced, self-starting Application C++ / .NET Programmer with experience in virtual environments and a strong work ethic, who is capable of working both independent of direct supervision and as part of a team to design, maintain, and enhance existing, current, and future applications all built using the latest Microsoft development technologies. This position will have the opportunity to extend our current capabilities to develop support for emerging virtual environments, such as VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, etc.

Software Quality Assurance Analyst

General Summary:
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst is a QA team member who provides software testing expertise. This member exhibits passion for Quality Assurance and works within not only their own team but other Engineering groups to foster and enforce Quality Assurance principles and philosophies. They are dedicated agents for continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities:
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst’s responsibilities include:

  • Execution of test plans to ensure the delivery of quality software products. Tasks include clarifying requirements, understanding design decisions, writing or modifying test scripts.
  • Participating in test plan reviews of other QA team members.
  • Participating in the development of a Software Quality Assurance program. Identifies, recommends and implements changes to enhance the effectiveness of Quality Assurance strategies.
  • Responsible for identifying, entering, and tracking defects encountered during testing. Communicates all findings with the development team and works towards resolution of the defect.
  • Updating testing documentation in an efficient and timely manner according to departmental standards and procedures.
  • Helps support and foster an environment for Quality Assurance to succeed within the team and within areas outside the team.
  • Embodies an innovative spirit and a willingness to learn and challenge their own thinking and the thinking of those around them when they feel it will serve to benefit the team and Shavlik.
  • Participating in new and sustained Software Development Projects as a QA team member including (but not limited to):
    1. clarifying requirements,
    2. understanding design requirements,
    3. configuring virtual systems for testing,
    4. executing test plans,
    5. logging test results,
    6. providing feedback to Engineers and reporting on testing progress.

Qualifications:
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst must possess the following competencies:

  • Experience with test tools and utilities specifically HP/Mercury Products.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems: NT, XP, 2000 and 2003. Also, adequate knowledge of Windows applications, including Microsoft Office Products.
  • Strong knowledge of databases (SQL). The ability to write SQL queries a plus.
  • Good knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle and Software Development methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within teams but also independently.
  • Ability and desire to learn new technical skills and technologies.
  • Ability to influence others and provide feedback. Strong risk management and decision-making skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge and application of the technology available in the creation of security products and operating systems.
  • Testing skills in cross-platform technologies and languages a plus.
  • Knowledge of networking and network administration a plus.
  • 3+ years of industry experience including networking experience in a related industry.
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • A Quality Assurance certification is a plus.
