Shavlik HFNetChkPro Plus: Users who in the past purchased a stand-alone version of the patch management function know the program as Shavlik HFNetChkPro Plus. These users have the option to upgrade their software without adding the spyware management functionality. For these users the name will continue to be Shavlik HFNetChkPro Plus.
: More recent releases of the program include a spyware management function; collectively, the patch management and the spyware management functions are called .
For the sake of simplicity and consistency, the name is used throughout for the remainder of this document when referring to the program.
There are several different editions of the patch management function. The edition you have depends upon the type of program license you purchased. Each edition provides a different level of capabilities. To determine which edition you are running, look at the title bar or the main page of the program. Choosing Help > About will also provide edition details.
This section provides a synopsis of each available edition.
This is the full edition of the patch management program. With you can scan for missing patches, deploy missing patches, and view the results of these actions. You also have access to all the other features provided by the program, including the new data rollup and capabilities.
The Audit edition allows you to scan for missing patches, but it does not allow you to deploy patches. All other features are available.
is available on a trial basis. This enables you to test all the capabilities of , but only for 45 days. When the trial license expires the program will only allow you to scan and deploy to the local machine.
is what you receive if you download the program from the Web site and do not enter a license key. It takes up where Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 2.x leaves off by analyzing the patch status of those Microsoft products no longer supported by MBSA. As its name suggests, is not a full-featured version of the program. It scans only a limited set of Microsoft products and it does not enable you to deploy missing patches.
