There are two names that may be used when referring to the patch management program:
Shavlik NetChk™ Patch: Represents the Basic and Audit editions of the program
Shavlik HFNetChkPro™: Represents the HFNetChkPro and HFNetChkPro Plus editions of the program
The edition you have depends upon the type of program license you purchased. To determine which edition of the program you are running, look at the title bar or the main page of the program. Choosing Help > About will also provide edition details.
The following provides a synopsis of each available edition. For more detailed information, see http://www.shavlik.com/hf.aspx.
Note: For consistency sake, the name is used throughout this document when referring to the program.
This name applies to the Basic and the Audit editions of the program. Each edition provides a different level of capabilities.
Shavlik
NetChk Patch, Basic Edition
The Basic edition allows you to scan and deploy patches up to the number
of machines you have licensed, with support for a maximum of 500 machines.
The Basic
edition also includes access to a variety of the reports that are available
with the program. This
edition enables up to 13 different scanning threads to be active at one
time.
Shavlik
NetChk Patch, Audit Edition
The Audit edition allows you access to all the features in the Basic
edition, plus it provides many additional scanning capabilities as well
as access to the full array of reports that are available with the program.
In addition,
it enables up to 256 different scanning threads to be active at one time
and supports an unlimited number of machines.
This name applies to the HFNetChkPro and the HFNetChkPro Plus editions of the program. Each edition provides a different level of capabilities.
Shavlik HFNetChkPro provides access to all the same features as the Shavlik NetChk Patch Audit edition, plus it provides access to a number of new features. These features include SafeReboot™, access to different schedulers, auto-deployment features, pre- and post-installation scripts, and the ability to export reports to different formats. Shavlik
HFNetChkPro Plus
The Plus edition of Shavlik HFNetChkPro allows you access to all the
features in Shavlik HFNetChkPro, plus it contains extra features that
are particularly useful in large and sophisticated organizations. The
Shavlik HFNetChkPro Plus enables you to scan for and deploy custom patches,
it is capable of supporting a Microsoft SQL database, and it enables you
to make the most efficient use of your existing bandwidth by providing
support for distribution servers. In addition, it enables up to a possible
256 different scanning threads to be active at one time.

A Shavlik NetChk Patch Trial Edition is available. This provides all the capabilities of Shavlik HFNetChkPro, but only for 45 days. When the trial license expires the program will only allow you to scan and deploy to the local machine.
If you download the program from the Web site and do not enter a license key, the program will let you do very little. It will launch and allow you to review the online Help file but not much else.
